Cut and Run

This is a home for former Republicans who are "cutting and running" from the current policies and leadership of the Republican Party. The Democratic Party is not an alternative. The purpose of this site is to provide an exanchage of views as to how disenchanted Republicans can make thier voice heard in advance of the 2008 convention.

I am a 77 year old retired trial lawyer, and an active mediator/arbitrator who is also a baseball nut. In 2001 I attended the San Francisco Giants Fantasy Camp in Scottsdale. Since then, after eleven subsequent camps and a kidney transplant I am still attempting to play baseball with the young folks. My trials and tribulations in returning to the game, together with comments upon sports, the passing political scene and developments in the law, will, on an irregular basis, appear on this site A word of warning, I am a recovering Republican-a-holic who has been driven from my party by George W Bush and the Tea Party (which is making George Bush look good). McCain and the gas tax

President Bush today signed a bipartisan bill that transferred 8 billion dollars to the federal highway trust fund to avoid the bankruptcy of the fund caused by decreased collections. The fund was going broke because of declining collections caused by the recent spike in gas prices. This bailout (financed undoubtedly by additional borrowing from China et al) was necessary because state construction projects would have been disrupted with a resulting loss of over 300,000 jobs.

I am not sure how, or if, John McCain voted on this bill and I have seen no comments from his campaign on this subject. Just imagine what would have happened if John McCain had been in charge and his proposal for a summer federal gas tax holiday had been adopted. This is just further proof that John McCain just doesn't get it when it comes to the economy or economics.

Keith Oberman Special Comment

I am setting forth below an entry from my Blog on Barack Obama's web site which was posted on August 17th. Tonight's special comment by Keith Oberman makes the same point in almost verbatim language. Great minds must think alike:

If I heard John McCain properly last night he stated that he would get Osama Bin Laden and "He knows how to get him." Has McCain ever shared that knowledge with the public? Has anyone asked how he would go about it? Probably not, because MccCain would undoubtedly claim that it is "top secret information." Even if this claim were credible has John McCain passed his knowledge on how to get Osama Bin Laden on to George Bush at any time over the past seven years? Did Bush act on McCains' information or is McCain keeping his "knowldege" secret so he can use it as a campaign tactic? If John McCain is putting America first, as he claims, and if he know how to get Bin Landen, as he claims, why is Bin Laden still running around loose. At a minimum, McCain should be pressed to explain why the current administration has not implemented his plan to get Bin Laden
